Rabbi Miriam C. Berkowitz Ma

Miriam lives in Jerusalem, Israel.  She is a Canadian-American-Israeli educator with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Pioneer of pastoral care in Israel with experience teaching to varied audiences.  Team player with a commitment to excellence and attention to detail.  Self-motivated, bright and creative.  Able to travel and think out of the box. Languages: English native, Hebrew fluent, French and Russian conversational, Italian basic. Education: Schechter Institute, Jerusalem — Rabbinical Ordination and MA. 1994-1998 Hebrew University, Jerusalem — Wallenberg Graduate Fellowship to study Zionism and Israeli Society. 1994-1998 Harvard University, Cambridge, MA — AB Magna cum Laude in International Relations, specializing in the Soviet Union and the Middle East.  John Harvard scholarship for the top 10% of students.  Phi Beta Kappa. 1989-1993. Not for profit management and chaplaincy International Coordinator, Spiritual Care Association, based in NY, — September 2018-Present Advise chaplains worldwide how to broaden their skills, advance the profession and grow training programs in their countries.  Individual and group mentoring. Founder and Director, Kashouvot Pastoral Care in Israel, Jerusalem— 2010-Present. Created a not for profit to fill an unmet need for spiritual care in Israel hospitals and nursing homes to support Jewish, Christian and Muslim patients and families through illness, bereavement and life transitions, etc.  Built a pluralistic staff of chaplains and rabbinic interns, providing ongoing training and supervision.  Created partnerships with chaplaincy organizations in the US and Israel. Oversaw budget, grant-writing and reporting to foundations, donor relations, board, public relations, hiring and mentoring staff, expansion of pastoral care sites. Chaplain, Kashouvot Pastoral Care in Israel, Jerusalem— 2010-2016 Provided group support for patients, in addition to one-on-one pastoral care, in English, Hebrew, French and Russian at St. Louis French Hospital and Bet Alicia nursing home.  Worked with multicultural staff and families.
